Andaman and Nicobar Islands - An Overview

The Andamand and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India and is located in the Indian Ocean. The territory comprises of two island groups -

The Andamand Islands
The Nicobar Islands.


This union territory is often abbreviated to A & N Islands or ANI.

These two Island groups are seperated by the 10 degree North parallel, with the Andamans to the Andaman Islands to the north of this latitude, and the Nicobars to the south. The Andaman sea lies to the east Island group whereas the Bay of Bengal lies to the west.

Port Blair is the capital city of this Island group. According to the latest census of India the total population of the Island group is 3,56,152. The total area of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is approximately 6,496 square Kilometers.
