Chandigarh - An Overview:
Chandigarh, is "The City Beautiful" because of its beautiful landscapes and architecture. Chandigarh the name translates from Hindi to English as "the fort of Chandi", chandi being a Hindu Goddess.
Chandigarh is a Union territory of India. Chandigarh is also the Capital City of two Indian States - Punjab and Haryana. It is the only city in the Country which enjoys the status of capital city of two States and Union Territory of India together.
Chandigarh is known for its architectural planning and is the first planned city of India. Chandigarh has in total 63 sectors. Chandigarh was designed by famous Architects - Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Matthew Nowicki and Albert Mayer. Chandigarh has the highest per capita income of country i.e. Rs. 110676 per annum.
Chandigarh is surrounded from all sides by Punjab and Haryana. Adjacent cities to Chandigarh are Mohali, Panchkula, Derrabassi.
